Photometric variability in earthshine observations.
The identification of an extrasolar planet as Earth-like will depend on the detection of atmospheric signatures or surface non-uniformities. In this paper we present spatially unresolved flux light curves of Earth for the purpose of studying a prototype extrasolar terrestrial planet. Our monitoring of the photometric variability of earthshine revealed changes of up to 23% per hour in the bright...
متن کاملPhotometric Observations of Supernovae 2000 E , 2001
CCD BV RI photometry is presented for two type Ia supernovae 2000E and 2001V, for SN Ib 2001B and SN II-P 2001X. The parameters of light curves and absolute magnitudes at maximum light are estimated. It is shown that all four supernovae are typical for their classes considering the shape of their light curves and maximum luminosity.
متن کاملPeriod analysis for simultaneous multichannel photometric observations
The method of three stage weighted period analysis is generalized for simultaneous multichannel observations. The new method is based on the phase dispersion minimization over all channels simultaneously. The three stages in the full algorithm are phase dispersion minimization method (PDM), linear modeling (LM) and nonlinear modeling (NLM). Simple computational tests of the multichannel period ...
متن کاملPhotometric observations from theoretical flip-flop models
Some active stars show a so-called flip-flop phenomenon in which the main spot activity periodically switches between two active longitudes that are 180◦ apart. In this paper we study the flip-flop phenomenon by converting results from dynamo calculations into long-term synthetic photometric observations, which are then compared to the real stellar observations. We show that similar activity pa...
متن کاملAsteroseismology of red giants: photometric observations of Arcturus by SMEI
We present new results on oscillations of the K1.5 III giant Arcturus (αBoo), from analysis of just over 2.5 yr of precise photometric observations made by the Solar Mass Ejection Imager (SMEI) on board the Coriolis satellite. A strong mode of oscillation is uncovered by the analysis, having frequency 3.47 ± 0.03 μHz. By fitting its mode peak, we are able offer a highly constrained direct estim...
